Dr. Mary Jo Cannon

Dr. Mary Jo Cannon was born and raised in Maryland. She started her medical career as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the early ‘70s. Dr. Cannon spent the next decade working her way through Medical School as an RN, graduating as a physician in 1981. She earned her degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine at Baltimore and took her residency training in Anesthesiology to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine, which she went on to practice for decades.

In the early 2000’s, she went to the Caribbean and taught in both a BSN Nursing Program and an accredited University of Medicine and Health Sciences for eleven years. During her time overseas, Dr. Cannon took a sabbatical in order to pursue her master’s degree in addiction studies from Hazelden/Betty Ford in Minnesota, finishing in 2010.

Upon her return to the U.S., Dr. Cannon dove into addiction medicine and has devoted herself to behavioral health medicine since that time. She has fully dedicated herself and her time to both treating and working with patients suffering from addiction/substance abuse, co-occurring mental health challenges, and chronic pain ever since 2012. She has also studied medicinal uses of cannabis and is a cannabis-certified clinician as well. A top priority for Dr. Cannon is to stop the stigma of these diseases and promote education, prevention and treatment for both patients and the families affected by this disease.
